Trezor.io/Start® — Starting Up Your Device | Trezor®

A clear, colourful setup guide and presentation handout — headings H1 → H5 included.

Introduction: Why Trezor and Self-custody

Trezor hardware wallets give you strong, offline protection for your cryptocurrencies and private keys. This short guide walks you through powering on, configuring, securing your recovery phrase, updating firmware, and installing the Trezor Suite — all presented with clear headings so you can use this as a slide or handout.

Step 1 — Unbox & Inspect

When your device arrives, verify tamper-evidence and packaging. Ensure the device is sealed and the accessories (USB cable, quick start info) are present.

What to check

  • Seal integrity and packaging authenticity.
  • Model name printed on box (Model One, Model T, Safe series).
Tip

If anything looks suspicious, contact official Trezor support immediately (official links included below).

Step 2 — Connect & Initialize

Connect your Trezor to your computer or mobile device using the supplied cable. Go to trezor.io/start and follow the on-screen instructions to install Trezor Suite or use the web app.

Choose a setup option

  • Create a new wallet (recommended for new users).
  • Recover wallet from an existing recovery seed (if migrating).
Security note

Never enter a recovery seed on a website or any device other than a trusted hardware wallet during recovery.

Step 3 — Create PIN & Backup Seed

Set a secure PIN on the device (this prevents local access). Trezor will display a recovery seed — write this down on paper or a metal backup and store it in a safe, separate location.

Best practices

  • Use a PIN you can remember but is not easily guessable.
  • Keep multiple physical backups of the seed in geographically separate, secure places.

Step 4 — Update Firmware & Install Suite

After initial setup, check for firmware updates via Trezor Suite. Always update firmware from official sources to receive security fixes and feature improvements.

How updates work

Follow the device prompts — the Suite will guide the update. Do not unplug during the update process.

Step 5 — Use & Maintain

Use Trezor Suite to manage coins, sign transactions, and check balances. For advanced integrations, consult the developer docs.

Ongoing security

  • Beware of phishing: always confirm the URL and certificate.
  • Register for official support channels for verified help.

Closing — Keep Control

The core promise of a hardware wallet is that you — and only you — control your private keys. Treat the recovery seed as the ultimate key: protect it, verify it, and keep it offline. When in doubt, reach out to official Trezor support links above.
